Germán Quiroga Earns Top-Five Finish at Iowa Speedway, Moves to Fourth in Championship Point Standings

Germán Quiroga rallied to a fifth-place finish in the American Ethanol 200 presented by Enogen at Iowa Speedway, earning his seventh top-10 finish in nine NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts this season. The No. 77 OtterBox Toyota Tundra was quick during the first practice session on Friday, July 11, finishing 10th. As the day progressed, weather became an issue for the competitors at the Newton, Iowa race track, causing the second practice session of the day to be cancelled. Quiroga ran a fast lap during the first round of knock-out qualifying, finishing fourth and advancing to the final round, where he secured a 10th-place starting spot for the race. Once the green flag dropped, Quiroga commented over the radio that the handling on his Toyota Tundra was too loose. His crew chief, Butch Hylton, urged him to keep the truck as steady as possible until the competition caution came out on lap 45. An incident on the track however, brought out the yellow flag on lap 39, and the team was able to make adjustments to improve the handling of the No. 77 black and yellow machine. Quiroga remained in the top-10 throughout the rest of the 200-lap race, and an excellent effort by his pit crew during a pit stop on lap 129 allowed him to restart in the fourth position and ultimately take the checkered flag in fifth. This is the Mexico City, native’s second top-five finish of the season; earning his the first at Gateway Motorsports Park in June where he finished second. Quiroga is currently fourth in the Camping World Truck Series championship point standings, 19 points behind the leader.
