Hornaday Brings Home Top 10 in Kentucky

Coming into Kentucky on Thursday night, Ron Hornaday Jr. wanted to continue his hot start to the 2014 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) season and come home with a top-10 finish. Hornaday and his Rheem Comfort Products team did just that, finishing eighth for Turner Scott Motorsports (TSM) at Kentucky Speedway. During the action-packed one-day show, the NCWTS had two practice sessions where Hornaday and his TSM team laid down the 14th- and 10th-fastest lap times, respectively. Hornaday then went out on Thursday afternoon and laid down a time of 31.006 sec., which was good enough for a top-10 starting position for the 150-lap shootout.

Taking the green flag in the eighth position, the four-time NCWTS champion survived two early cautions and settled into the top 12 during the first part of the race. Battling a tight-in and loose-off Silverado, crew chief Doug George called Hornaday down pit road on lap 52 for four tires, fuel and adjustments during green-flag pit stops. Once pit stops cycled through, Hornaday was scored in the 13th position. He continued to run consistent lap times and maintain his top-15 position until the fifth caution of the night came out on lap 100. During the caution, George called Hornaday down pit road, this time electing to take two tires and fuel. The strategy paid off, as Hornaday gained several positions on pit road and restarted fourth on lap 104. He continued to run top-10 lap times and survived one more caution towards the end of the race, ultimately coming home in the eighth position.

Ron Hornaday on his run at Kentucky Speedway:

“Today was an up-and-down day for this Rheem Comfort Products team. We were just fighting a loose and tight truck all day and had to continue to work on it to make it better. This team never gives up and we managed to leave here with a top-10 finish. The guys at Turner Scott Motorsports continue to build me great trucks with a lot of speed, and I’m looking forward to getting back on the track in Iowa.”
