Kentucky Derby…The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) heads to Kentucky Speedway for the eighth stop of the 2014 season. Ben Kennedy will make his first-career start at the 1.5-mile D-shaped oval in the UNOH 225. However, Thursday will not be the first time that Kennedy will make laps at the Sparta, Kentucky facility. Kennedy and the No. 31 team tested at Kentucky Speedway last month, earning the 22-year-old valuable experience at the intermediate track.
Racing To Excellence…This week in Kentucky, the No. 31 Turner Scott Motorsports team will be hosting a member of the University of Northwestern Ohio Racing to Excellence program. Haley Smith, a winner of the STEM essay contest, will join Kennedy and his team to observe how they use science, technology, engineering and mathematics every day to win races. The University of Northwestern Ohio invented the high performance/motorsports program in 1992 and has been training students with the latest technology available in the industry since. This Week’s Silverado…Kennedy and the No. 31 Turner Scott Motorsports crew will utilize chassis TSM-600 this week at Kentucky Speedway. TSM-600 was a favorite of the No. 32 team in 2013, who selected it to run in eight events last season, including Kentucky Speedway, where it earned a seventh-place finish. TSM-600 finished in the top 10 in six of the eight events it ran last season, with its best race coming at Pocono Raceway where Miguel Paludo earned the first starting spot and finished second.
Watch and Listen…The UNOH can be seen live on Thursday, June 26 on FOX Sports 1. Race coverage will begin at 7:30 p.m. EDT, and the event can also be heard live on MRN Radio as well as SiriusXM Satellite Radio, channel 90.
Previous Race Recap…In the NCWTS’ triumphant return to Gateway Motorsports Park, Kennedy overcame early handling issues and appeared to be on his way to at least a top-five finish when the No. 31 Turner Scott Motorsports Chevrolet unexpectedly ran out of fuel, putting him two laps down late in the race. However, the No. 31 team battled back, by virtue of the wave around and free pass, returning to the lead lap and bringing home a 14th-place finish.

“I’m really excited to get to Kentucky. I feel like I learned a lot at the test last month, so the learning curve won’t be quite as steep there as it has been at some of these tracks I’ve never raced on before. Our last two races, we really didn’t finish as good as we ran in the race, so I’m looking for a little bit of redemption. Our guys have been working really hard and bringing fast trucks to the track, so I’m really hoping that we can have a strong weekend and get the kind of finish we deserve.”
