John Wes Townley was poised to have his career best NASCAR Camping World Truck Series finish Sunday in the running of the Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway, until he was spun on the last lap while in the fourth place position, relegating the driver to a 20th-place finish.
Rain lingered all weekend at the .526-mile paperclip shaped Virginia short track all weekend. The inclement weather canceled all activity on Saturday setting the starting lineup by Friday’s practice times, putting the Wauters Motorsports driver in the 16th-place position for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.
“It is a shame what happened on the last lap,” John Wes Townley said. “Martinsville is a give and take track and there was a lot of chaos at the end. We were running a solid fourth, trying to get third when I got spun for no apparent reason. It is just disappointing and not representative of where we should have finished. The next race is always around the corner and we’ll see if we can settle it there. I have to thank Wauters Motorsports, the pit crew, Zaxby’s, and Gibbs (Joe Gibbs Racing Engines) for the horsepower. We had an awesome truck here in Martinsville. We’ll head to Kansas in May and try to get a better finish.”
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will return to action at Kansas Speedway Friday, May 9, 2014.
