Darrell Wallace Jr. Hovering Over First Career Win

Darrell Wallace Jr. has adjusted quickly to the flat track of Martinsville as he posted a 3rd place start for Saturday’s Kroger 200. This is just the 2nd trip the rookie has made to Virginia in his NASCAR career, the other one was in the 2nd race of the year when he cross the checkered flag line in the 5th position.

Despite the season being filled with mistakes Darrell Wallace can’t complain as he rides just 12-points behind Ryan Blaney in the rookie of the year battle. Wallace has a good chance of reducing that lead this weekend in Martinsville as Blaney starts all the way in 24th.

“We have a little better package than we did last time and we’re looking to finish better as well. It’s good that we have these next four races in a row and can stay on top of things. I’m excited to go back to Martinsville Speedway where we ran good in the spring and definitely had a shot at the win. We will be a lot better this time around. It’s good to go back to Martinsville where I’ve always loved racing and it’s treated me well. If we can better our finish and finally knock a win off our list, we’ll be all right.” said Wallace “I’m feeling confident and still pumped and ready to get there.”

Wallace is still tracing that elusive first win in the NCWTS (NASCAR Camping World Truck Series), he’s hoping he will accomplish that goal this weekend in Martinsville. Denny Hamlin his KBM (Kyle Busch Motorsports) teammate has contributed a lot to help Wallace prepare for Martinsville, Hamlin starts on the pole right in front of Wallace for tomorrow’s event.

Darrell as well as many other drivers have prepared for the long runs that the half-mile paperclip will produce. Jerry Baxter, crew chief for Wallace, brought the same chassis from the spring this weekend and hopes they’ll strike the grandfather clock as the victor.

“We are taking the same truck we ran in the spring at Martinsville and a truck that has won at Martinsville. We’ll have a similar game plan to early this year and try to manage tires so we can have something for Darrell (Wallace, Jr.) at the end.” said Baxter. “Earlier this year, it was his first race, other than the superspeedway at Daytona, and he is ten-folds better and I know I am better. As a team, we are definitely better. This should be a good weekend for our No. 54 team. ”

After a 17th place run in Talladega last weekend Bubba Wallace is hoping for success to surround him and his No. 54 Toyota in their quest for their first career win.
