Chris Cockrum Ready for the High Banks of Talladega

After several months of being away form the track, Georgia native Chris Cockrum returns to the NASCAR Camping World Truck series this Saturday afternoon behind the wheel of the SS Green Light Racing No. 07 at the Talladega Superspeedway.

Cockrum scored his first career NCWTS top-fifteen finish at the season opening Nextera Energy Resources 250 at Daytona behind the wheel of the same No. 07 Toyota Tundra he will drive this weekend at Talladega with backing of Advanced Communications Group.

Cockrum began his racing career behind the wheel of a Go-Kart at age eight and advanced through the short-track ranks while working his way up to the NCWTS. Saturday’s race will be his ninth NCWTS start and he also has nine career ARCA starts. Chris has finished on the lead lap in both of his NCWTS starts on superspeedways.

“I enjoy working with the guys at SS Green Light Racing,” Cockrum said. “I really enjoy working with Bobby, he’s real laid back. I enjoy the guys, they give me all they’ve got, and when I’m out there I give them everything I can. Hopefully we’ll have a good showing at Talladega.”

Team owner Bobby Dotter will call the shots for Cockrum this weekend at Talladega, “Chris has done a nice job on the superspeedways in the Truck Series with a sixteenth place run last year and a top-fifteen for us at the season opener at Daytona. The key is to stay out of harms way and be there at the end.”

David Starr will be behind the wheel of the BYF/Steely Lumber No. 81 Toyota for SS Green Light Racing. “I enjoy running with David,” concluded Cockrum. “He’s a nice guy with a ton of experience. He was a real good teammate and helped me a lot at Daytona. David had a tough race at Daytona and hopefully we can work together and have a good showing for both the SS Green Light Racing teams.”

Cockrum is actively exploring marketing partners to run additional races the balance of 2013 and is already working on plans for the 2014 NCWTS season. “We’ve got some irons in the fire, but things are real tough out there. I’m hoping we can put some things together and get to run some more races with Bobby and the guys.”

The Fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola is the 309th consecutive NCWTS start for the SS Green Light Racing team and the ninth career start for Cockrum in the Truck Series.
