HISTORY SEEKER: Germán Quiroga made history on June 7th at Texas Motor Speedway with a third-place finish, marking the highest finishing position in one of NASCAR’s national divisions for a Mexican-born driver. With momentum like this, who knows what the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Rookie of the Year contender can achieve. The No. 77 OtterBox Toyota Tundra driver will make his debut at the 1.5-mile track of Kentucky Speedway for the UNOH 225 but is anxious to continue his success.
OTTERBOX®: Just announced this week, OtterBox has partnered with the Red Horse Racing family alongside Germán Quiroga and his No. 77 Toyota Tundra. The company known for their protective solutions for the leading global handheld manufacturers, wireless carriers and distributors will serve as primary sponsor for nine races starting this weekend at Kentucky Speedway.
CHASSIS HISTORY: German Quiroga has a good feeling about bringing Chassis No. 014 to Kentucky Speedway. The chassis most recently raced at Charlotte Motor Speedway and showed incredible speed. In April, the chassis made its debut during a two day test at Texas Motor Speedway and has also seen time at the wind tunnel.
MEET & GREET: Quiroga, along with teammates John Wes Townley and Timothy Peters will visit the Toyota Pitpass Stage on Thursday afternoon in the Kentucky Speedway Midway at 3:00pm.
REARVIEW MIRROR – TEXAS: The early laps of the 167-lap WinStar World Casino proved to be promising for Quiroga as he began to move toward the front of the pack after a 13th-place qualifying effort. As the laps began to unwind, the three-time Mexico Series Champion was on the move hoping to capture a podium finish. Quiroga did just that – earning a career high NASCAR finish of third. Quiroga’s third-place finish felt like a win, as he continues to improve under crew chief Dan Stillman’s watchful eye and the great calls he makes during the course of the race. The third-place finish moved Quiroga up one position in the point standings to 19th.
Germán Quiroga on Kentucky Speedway:
You just came off your career best finish (third) ironically at a 1.5-mile track. How does this prepare you for Kentucky Speedway?
“Obviously I am very excited for our third-place finish. We knew we were fast after we tested at Texas. There was a lot of information that we utilized while we were there, that we learned. I don’t know how it will relate to Kentucky because it’s a different track that I haven’t been to before. Even though we had a good run at Kansas and we were fast at Charlotte we finally were able to score a great finish at Texas. Hopefully everything goes well with our OtterBox Toyota Tundra and we can get another top-five finish.
What words of advice does your crew chief Dan Stillman have for tackling Kentucky Speedway?
“Well, he told me it was different than the 1.5-mile ovals that we’ve been too. The track is very rough. He said we will work the same as we did in Texas, with being patient and going one step at a time. Hopefully we can return with another top five finish. We will be taking the truck we tested at Texas and the truck we had at Charlotte and I am very happy about that. That Tundra is fast and this could be another great race for us.”
