Tommy Baldwin and Matthew Dillner Race for Sandy at Phoenix

Long Island, N.Y., native, Tommy Baldwin will team with fellow Long Island native and NASCAR.com Cameraman/Analyst Matthew Dillner, Feed the Children and Motor Racing Outreach (MRO) as they Race for Sandy this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway. Utilizing donations through feedthechildren.org/raceforsandy, Feed the Children will send much needed food and supplies to the Long Island area hit by Hurricane Sandy. Tommy Baldwin Racing and the No. 36 Accell Construction Chevrolet will promote the effort in Sunday’s AdvoCare 500.

Superstorm Sandy created an estimated $50 billion dollars in damage in the United States and has been responsible for 110 deaths. Feed The Children has already designated 30 trucks of relief supplies to send into areas devastated by the storm. Working with a network of partner agencies and sponsors, these shipments have arrived and will continue to arrive in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, North Carolina and other affected states. Items being delivered include ready to eat meals, food boxes, cleaning supplies and other essentials.

Through their New Jersey distribution center and other distribution centers in Nashville, Oklahoma City, and Elkhart, Indiana, Feed The Children is able to rush desperately needed relief supplies to victims of the storm. In disasters like this one, the recovery effort will continue for months and cash donations allow Feed The Children to keep its fleet of 40 semis on the road to bring help and hope to those rebuilding their lives.

“Tommy and a good bunch of us in the garage are from Long Island, and we haven’t forgotten where we come from,” explained NASCAR.com Cameraman/Analyst Matthew Dillner. “While my heart goes out to everyone effected by Sandy’s path, Long Island holds a special place in my heart. I have family up there and have friends that have lost their homes. Traveling to the final races, it’s tough to step off this high-speed merry-go-round that we are on, but we can do our best to help those in need while we are on it. With the Nor’easter storm on top of devastation from Hurricane Sandy, Long Island is in great need of support of all kinds. With the help of Motor Racing Outreach, Tommy Baldwin Racing and Feed the Children, we can make a difference in a lot of lives.”

“I’ve been racking my brain trying to find the best way to help my hometown,” Tommy Baldwin said. “Matt came to me with this idea to partner with Feed the Children and MRO, and it seemed like the perfect solution. Many residents are without power and supplies or worse some who lost their homes entirely. Through Race for Sandy donations, Feed the Children can provide much needed relief. Long Island is still a big part of my life. I have family and friends who still live in the area and visit often to check in on Baldwin Automotive, also located in Long Island.”
