Gilliland Looks to Extend Top 20 Streak at Bristol
David Gilliland is coming off of his best two-race streak of the season as the No. 38 Taco Bell team heads to Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend for the running of the Irwin Tools Night race.
Gilliland holds a career best finish of ninth at Bristol (2008). The Riverside, Calif. native has posted back-to-back top-20 finishes and has accumulated seven top-25 runs this season.
For the second year in a row, Gilliland's driver intro song has a special connection to the No. 38 team. Gilliland's selection "Life In The Pits" is written and recorded by the team's front tire changer, Kenyatta Houston.
Taco Bell's presence on the No. 38 car at Bristol is fitting, as Front Row Motorsports team owner, Bob Jenkins, owns numerous Taco Bell locations throughout the state of Tennessee.
David Gilliland Comments on Bristol:
"Our team has a lot of momentum and we've put together a nice string of finishes in the past few weeks. The most rewarding thing, is that, in the past three weeks, we've posted an average finish of 20th and three top-25's. In that span we've raced at Pocono, Watkins Glen and Michigan - three very distinct racetracks. It's encouraging to see that we're competitive on a variety of tracks. We will look to post our best short track finish of the season this weekend at Bristol."
"I'm pretty sure I'll be the only driver walking out during driver intros to a song recorded by a crew member. Kenyatta does a great job for us week in and week out changing tires. His new song 'Life In The Pits,' is a very creative piece that I think a lot of NASCAR fans will enjoy"
"I'd really like to post a nice run for Taco Bell this weekend. Bob [Jenkins] owns a lot of Taco Bell stores here in Tennessee, so it would be cool to put together a solid effort for all of his managers here in the Volunteer state."
