Dover: It’s Fun to Drive – Kvapil Bringing Aggressive Style to Unique Track

Dover International Speedway is an anomaly. The one-mile, high-banked, concrete oval is unlike any other venue on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series circuit. The track rewards hard-charging and aggressive driving, which is just what Travis Kvapil, driver of the No. 93 Burger King/Dr Pepper Toyota, hopes for. He’s excited about his return and plans to attack the “Monster Mile” in Sunday’s FedEx 400.

Kvapil has 10 NSCS starts at Dover to his credit with a best finish of 11th place (2008). In Truck Series competition, he’s achieved three top-fives and four top-10s in seven starts. His best finish is third place (2007).

The No. 93 team is 31st in the owner point standings, only nine points outside of the top-30.

Comments from BK Racing Driver Travis Kvapil heading into Dover:

“There’s no other track we go to that’s a one-mile, high-banked, concrete race track. It’s just a very unique place. It’s very fast for a one-mile track. It has a few things that not many other tracks have. It’s only 400 laps, but it’s one of those places that when you’re done with the race, you’re worn out. You definitely feel like you got a day’s work in when it’s done. It’s usually pretty warm when we’re there.

“The track is truly a monster, no doubt about it. You have to push the limits if you want any kind of success there, but if you push just a little too hard, that’s when you get bitten.

“You really have to have your car turning good in the middle of the corner. It narrows up on the straightaway. If somebody gets crossed up in front of you, it’s easy to get caught up in a wreck. There are some things that you have to be aware of at Dover and to be looking out for, but it’s a great track. I love it. It’s one of those places that’s fun to drive. It’s just so fast. You can really be aggressive with your driving style. You can drive really hard and get some speed out of your car. There are a lot of places that we go to that you have to back your corners up and not be so hard charging. At Dover, you can be aggressive and hard charging and a lot of times it pays off.”
