Ty Dillon and GEICO Racing Team Look to Conquer the Monster Mile

News and Notes

Taming the Monster – With just seven races remaining in the 2019 season, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) is returning to Dover International Speedway for the second and final time. Ty Dillon and the GEICO team are looking to conquer the Monster Mile during the Delaware 400 on Sunday, October 6. The No. 13 Camaro ZL1 will hit the high-banked, concrete oval on Friday for two practice sessions, before qualifying takes place on Saturday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. ET. The green flag for the 400-lap event will wave at 2:30 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
Back in White – After sporting the GEICO Military colors one week ago, Dillon and the Germain Racing team will return to the traditional white and blue colors of GEICO for Sunday’s event at Dover. This scheme is scheduled to compete in three additional races in the 2019 season. Did you know GEICO covers more than just car insurance? Dillon at Dover – Dillon has made six career MENCS starts at Dover, five of which have been behind the wheel of the No. 13 Germain Racing Chevrolet. While completing 98.8% of laps competed overall in the Cup Series, Dillon’s highlight came in the spring event of 2017. The GEICO Chevrolet led a total of 27 laps in the final stages, before the then Sunoco Rookie of the Year Contender crossed the finish line in the 14th position. Throughout his career, Dillon has also competed in 10 NASCAR Xfinity Series races (best finish of second), two NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series events and one Pro Series East race at the Delaware track.

Rearview Mirror – Last week at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Dillon and the GEICO Military team tackled the Roval for the second time in Cup Series history. After keeping the GEICO Chevrolet damage-free during practice and qualifying, the Germain Racing team battled the extreme fall heat and methodically worked their way through the field during Sunday’s race. Dillon ran inside the top-20 for the majority of the third stage before crossing the finish line in the 15th position. This marked the team’s eighth top-15 result of the 2019 season.

Meet Dillon – On Sunday, October 6 at 11:45 a.m. ET, Dillon will make an appearance at the Germain Racing Merchandise Hauler, located in the Dover Fan Zone, to sign autographs for those who have received a wristband throughout the weekend. Stop by to purchase your Dillon and GEICO gear, including tees, hats, diecasts, can coolers and lanyard holders!

From the Driver’s Seat: Quotes from Ty Dillon

What are your thoughts heading back to the Monster Mile for a second time this season?
“We honestly have struggled at Dover a bit the last two or three times we’ve been there, ever since we were leading laps our first season. We just haven’t had that much speed in our cars, but our GEICO team is looking forward to going back and hopefully finding a little different combination that works for our team.”

How long does it take for you to notice differences from behind the wheel in how your car drives?
“You can get a feel instantly. As a driver, you kind of know what your battle is ahead of you around first or second practice as far as what your car has in terms of capability and what you are going to have for the race. We will know right out of the gate in first practice and go from there to make the most of our weekend.”
