Angry Racecar Leaves Dillon and GEICO Team 29th at Pocono

Coming off of a strong weekend in Loudon, New Hampshire, Ty Dillon and the Germain Racing team arrived in the Pocono Mountains hoping to turn the tables on a track that has presented its challenges since the inception of NASCAR’s new aero package. While a ray of hope appeared occasionally during the weekend, a temperamental racecar would leave the group frustrated.

A big crowd and bright sunshine were on-hand when Dillon took to the starting grid for Sunday’s Gander RV 400. The No. 13 GEICO Military Camaro ZL1 started the 160-lap event from the 25th position when the green flag gave way to racing action. Almost immediately, Dillon began reporting issues with the racecar. While the Germain Racing pit crew took big swings at remedying the handling issues during pit stops, it was to no avail and Dillon’s frustration grew as the race wore on.

Although there was concern that the GEICO Camaro suffered from a broken trackbar, or other ancillary component, the team continued on with unwavering resilience despite the challenges they were facing. Never surrendering, a determined Dillon continued to wheel his No. 13 GEICO Military Camaro ZL1 around the Tricky Triangle and managed to salvage a 29th place finish, just two spots behind Kurt Busch, when the checkered flag waved.

“Today was not the day that we had hoped for in Pocono,” Dillon said after the race. “We were excited to get here and put all of our notes from June to good use, but I just couldn’t get comfortable with the handling of our GEICO Military Camaro ZL1. We took some big swings at it on pit road with adding bar load on a couple of stops, and that made it a little better. But, sometimes weekends just don’t go your way in racing, and this was one of those times.”

Germain Racing will now prepare for the year’s second road course race as they head to the Finger Lakes region of New York for race number 22 on the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series calendar.

Ty Dillon and the No. 13 GEICO Military Camaro ZL1 will hit the track at Watkins Glen International for the weekend’s opening practice session on Saturday, August 3rd, at 10:35 AM (ET). Qualifying will follow at 6:40 PM (ET).
