MENCS: Martin Truex Jr. wins Toyota Savemart 350 at Sonoma Raceway

Martin Truex Jr. won Sunday’s Toyota Savemart 350 at Sonoma Raceway. For Truex, this is his fourth victory of the 2019 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series season and his second consecutive victory at Sonoma Raceway.

Driver No. 19 held off teammate Kyle Busch over the last 22 laps of the race.

With his win on Sunday, Truex ties his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch with the most wins this season.

“Just dug down deep and tried to be smooth,” Truex Jr. told FS1. “Luckily i was able to have a big enough gap i could settle in and not feel too much pressure. It was definitely difficult. That was the longest run of the race there at the for us on tires. It felt terrible the last 20 laps. The last 10 it was just on ice.”

Rounding out the top five were Kyle Busch in second, Ryan Blaney in third, Matt DiBenedetto in fourth and Denny Hamlin in fifth.

Matt DiBenedetto who finished fourth earned his best career NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series finish and his first top five finish in 156 starts.

The 90-lap event seen no cautions outside of the stage breaks at the end of the two stages.

Kyle Larson who started on the pole finished tenth and didn’t lead any laps.

With Truex’s win on Sunday, Joe Gibbs Racing has won 10 races through 16 races.

The NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series will head into Chicagoland Speedway in the running of the Camping World 400 on June 30 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern on NBCSN.
