Richard Childress Racing to Celebrate Its 50th Anniversary in 2019

Richard Childress Racing announced plans for a yearlong 50th Anniversary celebration today, commencing in February with a pair of gold Daytona 500 entries for it’s two Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series teams. Defending Daytona 500 champion Austin Dillon will drive a gold No. 3 Dow Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 while Daniel Hemric will make his career-first Daytona 500 start in a gold No. 8 Bass Pro Shops/Caterpillar Camaro ZL1 in “The Great American Race.” The race airs live on FOX at 2:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, Feb.17.

In addition, Dillon will drive a gold No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Camaro ZL1 in the Advance Auto Parts Clash at Daytona International Speedway on Sunday, Feb. 10. The Clash entry harkens back to the gold Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet that Dale Earnhardt drove in the 1998 Winston All-Star race.

The gold Daytona International Speedway entries begin the season-long celebration for the Welcome, North Carolina organization, which started off with humble beginnings at Bowman Grey Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and has since grown to encompass more than 200 wins and 15 championships at the highest levels of the sport.

“Who would have thought that a $20 investment more than 50 years ago would have grown into the organization that RCR is today,” said Richard Childress, Chairman and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “I’m very proud of RCR’s accomplishments, from race wins to championships and the many drivers, employees and partners who have been associated with our race team along the way. I’m most proud of the relationships we’ve formed and the many race fans who support us each weekend.”

All three cars were unveiled today at the organization’s headquarters during an employee ceremony that included a champagne toast with Childress Vineyards Victory Cuvee.

A special 50th Anniversary logo was also unveiled that incorporates 15 stars as a nod to the organization’s NASCAR and ARCA Racing Series championships. RCR and current partners will incorporate the newly-created RCR 50th anniversary logo into merchandise, marketing collateral, digital content and advertising programs throughout the 2019 season. The logo will also be featured on all RCR fire suits.

RCR will celebrate the 50th Anniversary season-long through a robust content plan on rcrracing.com and various social media platforms celebrating the organization’s past, present and future. The 50th Anniversary celebration will extend into retail and merchandise, media, employee and fan engagement, sponsor partnerships and special events.

Childress, who was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2017, purchased his first car for $20 at the age of 17, earning six top-five and 76 top-10 finishes before retiring from driving in 1981. Childress went on to become a successful car owner, notably building one of the most iconic driver-owner duos in NASCAR history with Dale Earnhardt. Off the track, Childress is known as a successful businessman, philanthropist and conservationist.
