MENCS: Joey Logano Scores Hollywood Casino 400 Pole

Joey Logano scored the Hollywood Casino 400 pole on Friday at Kansas Speedway – earning his 20th career pole in the series. Logano, holding two victories at Kansas in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, posted a 28.177, 191.645 mph in the final round.

 

Logano goes into the 1.5-mile track looking to score his 11th top five and 23rd top 10 of the year in the cup series. In the spring at Kansas, Logano started ninth and finished third on the leaderboard.

 

Kevin Harvick, with seven wins this year on the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series tour, qualified in the runner-up spot with a 28.248, 191.178 mph. Harvick started on the pole in the spring and went on to score the win in the No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford. Since 2013, Harvick has gone on to score eight top 10 finishes in the last 10 events.

 

Aric Almirola, who went to victory lane last weekend at Talladega, will round out the top three starters. Almirola posted a 28.277, 190.968 in the final round of knockout qualifying.

 

The Florida native locked himself into the Round of Eight with the win last weekend at Talladega and has no pressure going into the weekend. Almirola sat 10th in round one and led round two of knockout qualifying.

 

Ryan Blaney and Brad Keselowski rounded out the top five.

 

Erik Jones, Kyle Busch, Daniel Suarez, Denny Hamlin and Alex Bowman rounded out the top 10.

 

Kyle Larson had some struggles throughout the day at Kansas Speedway on Sunday. Larson smacked the wall off of turn two in the first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice session that damaged the right side of his No. 42 Chevrolet. They then switched to their backup car.

 

Larson will start 27th on the leaderboard after posting a 28.852, 187.162 mph. in round one.
