Cassill, BK Racing Defy Odds to Remain in Top-35

After four events on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) circuit, the newly formed No. 83 BK Racing team is inside the top-35 of the owner point standings. Although the odds were stacked against the organization that materialized in February of this season, driver Landon Cassill and crew chief Doug Richert have landed the team in 35th place. It is currently four points ahead of the 36th place team and three points behind the 34th place team, and only 10 points outside of the top-30. Cassill is excited about the team’s progress and looks to solidify its position in Sunday’s Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. He is 33rd in the NSCS driver point standings.

Cassill has two prior NSCS starts at Auto Club Speedway. His best finish is 24th, which he achieved last season.

Comments from BK Racing driver Landon Cassill heading into the Auto Club 400:

“BK Racing has done exactly what we needed to. We’re inside the top-35 of the owner standings. It’s going to be so important for us to maintain that over the next few races. If your team is 36th or below, that’s when you have to ‘go or go home.’ When you’re in that position, you have to spend all of your practice team worrying about qualifying and working on that setup, and you really can’t focus on making the car better for the race. It makes for a stressful weekend and can take away from your race day performance. We want to avoid that for sure. The best way to stay inside the top-35 is to keep doing what we’re doing. We’ve been running well and our cars are getting faster and faster. We’ve had a few incidents of bad luck. If it wasn’t for those, we’d probably be inside the top-25.”

“I got one of my best finishes there (Auto Club Speedway) last season, so I’m really looking forward to going back. It’s a really fast track, without a whole lot of banking. There tends to be a lot of long, green flag runs, which makes fuel mileage and pit strategy an important part of the race. It’s never too early to start thinking about those things. The Burger King/Dr. Pepper Toyota team definitely has what it takes to have a good run there. It’s a great opportunity to cushion our points position.”
