Bayne Finishes 20th in Las Vegas

Trevor Bayne rolled off the grid in 24th for Sunday’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The driver fought a very tight No. 6 Ford Performance Ford Fusion in all three stages to take the checkered flag in 20th.

“It was a tough one for us today,” Bayne said. “The car was really tight, but I heard everyone had similar issues. We’ll get to work this week and hopefully come out with a better result in Phoenix.”

Almost immediately after the first lap of Stage 1, Bayne reported a very tight car. On Lap 38, the No. 6 team elected to make a green flag pit stop for four tires, fuel and a wedge adjustment to loosen up the car. The adjustment did not have the desired effect and Bayne soon went a lap down with over 30 laps to go in the stage.

After restarting for Stage 2 in 22nd, Bayne worked his way up to 21st and held steady for the majority of the stage. In yet another caution-less stage, the driver made his second green-flag pit stop as his team continued to work on the tightness of the car. Bayne finished Stage 2 in 22nd position, two laps down and pitted with the stage ending caution to keep working on loosening up the car.

The No. 6 team restarted for the final stage of the race in 23rd, two laps down. The driver held his position until caution waved at Lap 176. Bayne took the opportunity to pit for fresh tires, fuel and more adjustments to the car. The driver stayed steady back in his 22nd place position until yet another yellow flagged waved with 84 laps to go. The team elected not to pit and restarted in 21st.

The Knoxville native was able to jump one position after one last pit stop, ultimately finishing the race 20th.

Bayne and the No. 6 team return to the track at ISM Raceway on Sunday, March 11. Race coverage begins at 3:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
