MENCS: Kevin Harvick Captures Bojangles Southern 500 Pole at Darlington

Kevin Harvick swept all three rounds of Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series qualifying on Saturday at Darlington Raceway. Harvick, piloting the No. 4 Busch Beer Ford for Stewart-Haas Racing, posted a 27.669, 177.730 mph. to capture his 21st career pole in the series.

The Bakersfield, California, native will go into the Bojangles Southern 500 looking to capture his 37th career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series victory. This season, Harvick has captured one victory, eight top five, and 15 top 10 finishes through 24 events thus far.

Martin Truex Jr. will start second in the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota. Truex posted a 27.771, 177.077 mph. in the final round of qualifying and was 0.102 seconds behind the pole sitter.

Truex will go into the Bojangles Southern 500 looking to capture his fifth victory of the season. Currently, the New Jersey native holds 10 top five and 16 top 10 finishes through 24 events in 2017.

Kyle Busch, a driver from Las Vegas, Nevada, will round out the top three starters on Sunday. Busch posted a 27.833, 176.682 mph. in the last round of knockout qualifying to earn the spot.

Busch comes into the weekend with momentum after scoring the weekend sweep at Bristol Motor Speedway two weekends ago. The veteran will look to capture his third career win of the year.

With 40 drivers on the weekend entry list, there were no DNQ’s.
