MENCS: Joey Logano and Kyle Busch Scuffle Following Kobalt 400

Joey Logano and Kyle Busch had a heated exchange along pit road following the Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The incident that resulted in the heated exchange occurred in turns three and four just as race winner Martin Truex Jr. took the checkered flag.

Brad Keselowski, who led the race until two laps remaining, had some sort of an issue with his No. 2 Miller Lite Ford, causing him to lose a lot speed. As Busch went to go around Keselowski, he clipped the No. 22 Ford of Joey Logano. Both drivers were still going in the right direction at this point.

A short time later in the same corner, Logano and Busch made contact again that sent Busch around in his No. 18 M&M’s Toyota Camry. What happened next resulted in a post-race scuffle on pit road.

Busch went over to confront Logano after the race on pit road and that’s when the pushing and shoving occurred. Pit crew members of the No. 22 team quickly rushed to Logano to keep the drivers away from each other. Busch ended up on the ground and suffered a cut just above his right eye.

Officials quickly scurried to the scene to separate the incident.

Both drivers spoke to FOX Sports afterwards.

“I got dumped. Flat out just drove straight into the corner and wrecked me,” Busch told FOX Sports after the race. “That’s how Joey (Logano) races. He’s gonna get it.”

“I don’t know. We were just racing hard there at the end,” Logano said after the race. “I was underneath him on the backstretch and he tried to crash me into the corner getting underneath Brad (Keselowski) there and at that point I was just trying get through the corner. I was sideways all the way through and get into him. Nothing intentional. I understand his frustration, he crashed. The same thing could have happened into 3 what he did to me. There wasn’t much talking, there was a lot of swinging. I don’t know.  I was racing hard there at the end with our Pennzoil Ford.  Kyle and I usually race really well together.  We usually never have any issues, and he tried to pin me down into the corner underneath Brad and we about crashed on entry, and then I was still trying to gather it up by the center and I was gonna spin out, so I’m trying to chase it up and he was there.  It obviously wasn’t anything intentional, but obviously he thinks that, so, I don’t know, we’ll get by.”

Logano finished fourth while Busch finished 22nd.

Penalties, if any from this incident, will be announced later in the upcoming week.
