MAHLE Clevite Inc. announced that its 2011 MAHLE Engine Builder of the Year for both the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide Series has been awarded to Doug Yates, CEO of Roush Yates Engines.
The MAHLE Clevite Engine Builder of the Year awards are presented to the top engine builder in each of NASCAR’s top three divisions via a season-long system where MAHLE Clevite points are awarded based on qualifying, laps led and finishing position.
Doug Yates’ award for the Sprint Cup Series was based on the outstanding performance of the No. 99 Ford Fusion, driven by Carl Edwards, who completed the 2011 season without a single DNF, won three poles, and ended the season tied for the points lead in his Sprint Cup Series championship run (title eventually was awarded to Tony Stewart on a tiebreaker rule). Yates’ received the award for the Nationwide Series stemming from his work on the No. 60 Ford Fusion, also driven by Edwards, who amassed eight wins, 22 top-five, and 26 top-10 finishes.

Roush Yates’ Ford FR9 engines, which utilize Clevite bearings, also powered Roush Fenway Racing to the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series championship with driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (No. 6 Ford Fusion). The 24-year-old standout, in just his second year of Nationwide Series competition, scored two wins, 15 top-five, and 25 top-10 finishes en route to Roush Fenway’s first Nationwide Series championship since 2007 (Edwards). In all, Roush Yates FR9 engines won nine Sprint Cup and 13 Nationwide Series races in 2011.
