TRG Motorsports Gains Ground in the Lone Star State

Andy Lally raced the No. 71 TRG Motorsports Ford to a 29th place finish in Sunday’s AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. A hard fought effort by the entire team allowed for the significant improvement over its 43rd place starting position.

A long green flag run at the beginning of the race left the team in a difficult position.

“We had a fast car today. The long green flag run at the beginning of the race hurt us in two ways. We started in the back and were stuck in a lot of traffic while also not having the opportunity that we normally do to work on our car under yellow. Regardless, my guys worked hard and we had a good race today,” commented Lally.

The finish is also an improvement over Lally’s 32nd place effort at Texas earlier this spring.

Team owner Kevin Buckler is happy to have made up ground on the top-35.

“We made up a few points today. We still haven’t given up on making the top-35. There are two races left for us to accomplish it. We’re comfortably in 36th right now, and with the NASCAR rumor mill spinning, we could finish there and still find ourselves in the top-35 for Daytona depending on what shakes out with teams forming, closing and shuffling points. Andy drove hard today and the team gave their all. He’s had to overcome a lot this year, but he’s done everything we’ve asked of him and is becoming one heck of a racer.”

Next week, the team heads to reconfigured Phoenix International Raceway for the running of the Subway Fresh Fit 500. Coverage will begin Sunday at 3:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.
