Harrison Burton and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustang Dark Horse are set to start 24th in Sunday’s Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway.
Burton took that spot with a lap at 164.749 miles per hour around the egg-shaped, 1.366-mile oval during qualifying on Saturday afternoon.
In practice earlier in the day he was 12th on the speed chart with a best lap at 164.705 mph, which he turned on the second of the 26 laps he ran in the session.
Sunday’s 500-mile 367-lap affair, the final regular season race of the 2024 campaign, is scheduled to start just after 6 p.m. with Stage breaks at Laps 115 and 230.
USA Network will carry the TV broadcast.
