Brian Scott and the No. 44 Team Hoping to Find Speed in First Short Track Race of the Season

It hasn’t been the start to Brian Scott’s rookie season in the Cup Series that he was hoping for, but the No. 44 Albertsons/Whitetail team is looking to turn that around this weekend in Phoenix. With its proximity to Idaho, Scott considers Phoenix a homecoming, especially with Albertsons and Whitetail adorning the hood of the Ford Fusion, in which Scott has family ties to both companies. Scott is looking to bring success to the short track program at Richard Petty Motorsports, after a 27th-place finish in the intermediate program at Las Vegas.

Scott had some success throughout his NASCAR career at the one-mile oval in the second race of the West Coast Swing. In 13 starts in the XFINITY Series, he has five Top-10 finishes, a highest finish of seventh in 2014. He also has one Cup Series start and a win in the Camping World Truck Series in 2012.

Albertsons and Whitetail will again be featured on the hood of the No. 44 Ford Fusion. Safeway, a banner store under the Albertsons umbrella, is also partnering with the team this weekend. Fans will have two opportunities to meet Scott throughout the weekend in Phoenix both at Phoenix International Raceway and at a Safeway in Goodyear.

“One thing that’s changed so much at Phoenix is that I feel like it’s really hard for drivers to be very honest with how a track is changing from year to year, especially this year with the new low downforce package. Goodyear’s made some tires for us, so it’s hard to have a very good idea on how much the track has changed and how much the tires and this new low downforce package will make the track change. We’re heading to Phoenix where traditionally the short track program has been a bit of a struggle at Richard Petty Motorsports, but that’s something we hope Crew Chief Chris Heroy’s experience can shed a light on and hopefully make us better. We’re excited to go to the short track and hopefully have our Fords running well and see what we can do.”
