Whirlwind frezny for Daytona 500 champ Hamlin

No sleep, no problem for Daytona 500 champion Denny Hamlin.

A celebration-weary Hamlin, the victor in the closest finish in Daytona 500 history Sunday at Daytona International Speedway, embarked on a multi-city media tour Monday morning – one that will extend almost until he hits the track again at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Friday.

“I haven’t gotten to sleep yet,” Hamlin said on the Dan Patrick Show during one of the many stops on his Daytona 500 Champion’s media tour. “I just landed in New York, so I just got my first hour of sleep in. I’ve got a long few days ahead of me. … I go until 5 or 6 today and start at 5 in the morning tomorrow. It’s a long tour, but the cool thing about it, the other drivers who have won this before said ‘Look, enjoy the ride. You may look at it and say, ‘Man, I got a lot of stuff to do,’ but enjoy that. Because you never know when you’ll get this opportunity again.'”

On Monday morning, before flying to New York City for a number of in-studio interviews, Hamlin sat down with both NASCAR.com and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio at Daytona.

Once in New York, Hamlin took part in a handful of satellite interviews with markets such as Boston, Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Francisco and his hometown of Richmond, Virginia.

Hamlin will continue to enjoy the spoils of victory in NASCAR’s biggest race on Tuesday with appearances on FOX & Friends, Live! With Kelly and Michael and a host of SiriusXM shows.

And that’s just his morning schedule.

On Tuesday afternoon, Hamlin will fly to Bristol, Conn., to take part in an ESPN ‘Car Wash’ that will include two live SportsCenter appearances, among a number of other hits across ESPN’s bevy of platforms.

On Wednesday, Hamlin will take a breather, returning home to Charlotte, N.C., before flying to Atlanta for an interview on CNN Headline News and a visit to the Georgia State Capitol on Thursday morning.

He’ll then drive to Atlanta Morning Speedway for the start of the race weekend, which culminates with Sunday’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 (1 p.m. ET on FOX)
