Flat Tire Leads to Biffle Finishing 34th in Daytona 500

Greg Biffle had a fast No. 16 KFC Nashville Hot Ford and was a threat to pull off a Daytona 500 victory in Sunday’s Great American Race at Daytona International Speedway.  Unfortunately, Biffle suffered a flat tire while trying to make a move on the top line just past the halfway point of the race.  Biffle kept his Ford off the wall, but lost a lap pitting under green.  Another incident later in the race with the No. 10 put him two laps down and unable to rebound back as the laps dwindled down.  Biffle finished the Daytona 500 34th.

“We got a flat trying to make the outside groove push to the front and couldn’t get our lap back,” said Biffle.  “Then later the No. 10 came across our nose.  It was unfortunate, but it happens.  I don’t know if she was trying to block me or didn’t know I was there, but it happens.  Tough day for sure.  I’m proud of my guys for all their work this week.  We had a pretty good week minus these issues today.”

Greg Biffle started the Daytona 500 from the 15th starting position after finishing eighth in his Duel race Thursday evening.  Over the first half of the race the No. 16 KFC Ford was handling well and only needed minor wedge adjustments.

Biffle was making his move to the high line to try and make a run for the lead when the right rear tire blew.  Luckily Biffle was able to keep the car from wrecking and came down pit road for tires.  The unscheduled stop put Biffle one lap down to the field.

The team focused on getting itself in position to be the ‘lucky dog’ recipient over the remaining laps.  Contact with the No. 10 caused more damage to the No. 16 and sent Biffle back down pit road for repairs.  Biffle held on to the end to cross the finish line 34th in the No. 16 KFC Nashville Hot Ford.
