Tyler Reddick won Monday’s rain-delayed NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway.
Reddick took the lead in the final overtime restart to win and take over the points lead. For Reddick, Monday’s win marks his second win of the season. Reddick currently leads over Chase Elliott in the points standings by 10 points.
“It was a pretty chaotic race for us going into Sunday night, Reddick told NBC Sports post-race. “We had a bad restart. Just didn’t really know where we were going to stack up but I think we had a good sense of direction of what we needed to do going into today’s race when we knew what our plan was going to be coming down pit road for the first time. I think we made some good adjustments on the car all day. It wasn’t really a smooth day. We made some mistakes on pit road and put us in a bad spot going into stage three. Put us right behind the wreck which was just lucky guess”, Reddick said post-race.
William Byron, who was leading the race before the final restart finished second, Ty Gibbs finished third, Kyle Busch finished fourth and Brad Keselowski rounded out the top five.
Kyle Busch, who finished fifth, scored his first stage victory of the season in Stage 2.
Monday’s race at Michigan resumed after 51 laps due to rain postponing the race on Sunday.
Monday’s race saw Kyle Larson, who was the points leader going into Michigan, triggered a multi-car wreck and see Corey LaJoie’s No. 7 Spire Motorsports car go upside down.
Lajoie was able to walk away after his car got upside down on the backstretch and slid on its roof before it tumbled over on the infield grass in Turn 3.
Lajoie made contact with Noah Gragson that sent Lajoie around and ultimately upside down.
As for Larson, his No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet spun out and collected Bubba Wallace and others. Other drivers collected were Christopher Bell, Chris Buescher, Chase Briscoe and Todd Gilliland.
Rounding out the top ten were Chris Buescher in sixth, Zane Smith in seventh, Daniel Suarez in eighth, Denny Hamlin in ninth and Daniel Suarez in tenth.
