Richmond Notes: Denny Hamlin grew up in nearby Chesterfield, Virginia and attended races at Richmond Raceway as a child. Throughout his racing career, that hometown connection has provided Hamlin plenty of on-track success. He has five NASCAR Cup Series victories at Richmond (September 2009, September 2010, September 2016, April 2022, and March 2024). His record at the .75-mile track also includes six top-five finishes in his past seven starts and 12 top-fives in his past 15 starts dating back to September 2016. Hamlin has also earned three NASCAR Xfinity Series wins at Richmond.
Leading The Way: Hamlin leads all active drivers with 2,243 laps led at Richmond Raceway. He ranks fourth on the all-time lap leader list at Richmond behind NASCAR Hall of Famers Richard Petty, Rusty Wallace, and Bobby Allison.
Season So Far: The FedEx Racing team currently ranks fourth in the overall points standings on the strength of three points-paying victories, eight top-five finishes, nine top-10s, two poles and 772 laps led. Through 22 races, Hamlin has accrued 21 playoff points thanks to his three race victories and six stage wins.
Front Runner: Hamlin leads the Cup Series in multiple statistical categories according to Loop Data provided by NASCAR. In addition to leading the series in laps led, he is currently the best in the series in green flag speed, fastest on restarts, quality passes, fastest drivers late in a run, and laps in the top 15. Through 22 races, Hamlin has spent 356 more laps in the top 15 than the next closest competitor.
History of the 11: Throughout NASCAR history, the No. 11 has visited victory lane more than any other car number. Hamlin’s win at Dover Motor Speedway was the 234th time a No. 11 car has won in the Cup Series. For Hamlin, his 54 victories driving the No. 11 are only one behind NASCAR Hall of Famer Cale Yarborough for most on the illustrious list of drivers who have wheeled a No. 11 car to victory lane. That list includes Bobby Allison (3 wins), Mario Andretti (1 win), Buddy Baker (2 wins), Geoffrey Bodine (4 wins), Bill Elliott (6 wins), A.J. Foyt (1 win), Denny Hamlin (54 wins), Ned Jarrett (49 wins), Junior Johnson (11 wins), Parnelli Jones (1 win), Terry Labonte (4 wins), Darrell Waltrip (43 wins), and Cale Yarborough (55 wins).

Hamlin Conversation – Richmond
How do you feel about the new option tire this weekend at Richmond?
“For me, I think it’s a good thing, but we’ve been so good at Richmond that it could be something that takes away that advantage we’ve had there as a company. I am glad to see Goodyear and NASCAR trying something else to maybe mix up the racing a little bit and it’ll be interesting how it plays out with who manages their tires the best and how much of an advantage the option tire may be.”
