NSCS: Pure Michigan 400 Preview

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will invade the Michigan International Speedway for the 46th annual Pure Michigan 400. The race will mark the second stop at the 2.0-mile oval in 2015. Jeff Gordon comes into the Pure Michigan 400 as the defending August race winner. Gordon continues to search for his first win of 2015.

The entry list includes 44 drivers. Some of the different faces include Ryan Blaney, Josh Wise, Travis Kvapil, Brett Moffitt, Reed Sorenson and Timmy Hill. Sorenson must qualify inside the top 36 in order to make the race on Sunday.

Kyle Busch cracked the top 30 in driver points last weekend at Watkins Glen International after bringing home a finish of second. With that said, Busch is now eligible to make the Chase as long as he can stay inside the top 30 through Richmond. The Las Vegas native missed the first 11 races of the season after suffering injuries in a crash at Daytona in February.

Joey Logano and the No. 22 Shell/Penzoil crew found victory lane last weekend for the first time since winning the Daytona 500 in February. The 25-year old became the first driver to sweep the weekend after scoring the victory in Saturday’s XFINITY Series race. Logano goes into Michigan sitting second in the Sprint Cup Series point standings.

Clint Bowyer has some momentum coming into Michigan this weekend. The Kansas native holds the longest active top 10 finishing streak at the 2.0-mile oval with nine. Bowyer currently holds the final spot to make the Chase and will need another good performance on Sunday. Paul Menard sits second in the category with four straight top 10 finishes.

The Pure Michigan 400 will get underway Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET. on NBCSN and Live Extra. The Motor Racing Network will provide the live radio coverage.
