Truex Jr.’s Top-10 Streak Continues With 9th Place Texas Finish

Martin Truex Jr.’s top-10 streak continued as the Furniture Row Racing driver brought home a hard-fought, ninth-place result in Saturday night’s Duck Commander 500 Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.

It was the seventh straight top-10 finish for Truex, who remains third in the driver point standings. He, along with Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano are the only drivers to post top 10s in the first seven races of the season.

“Top 10s are never easy, but tonight this one was a little more difficult,” said Truex. “We hung in there and came through in the end. For a while it didn’t look like we were going to get there. But we did and it’s another indication about how this team never quits and battles right to the finish.”

Truex added, “We fought track position a lot and had a little trouble on pit road a few times. That hurt us a bit. At the end we had to start doing some strategy stuff to get our track position back. It was still a top 10, so all in all, it was a good night for us. We’re just missing a little bit of something. The guys are working really hard — we  just need to find a little bit of speed to run with those guys.”

Truex’s No. 78 Furniture Row/Denver Mattress Chevrolet, which ran a good portion of the 334 lapper in the top 10, was positioned in 14th place when the final caution came out on Lap 308. First year crew chief Cole Pearn took a gamble and called for a two-tire pit stop, which bolted Truex to third when the race was restarted.

“We needed track position and took a chance by taking two tires,” explained Pearn. “Martin kept the car in the top 10 in the closing laps to give us another solid finish.”
