2014/2015 Review/Preview: Josh Wise & Phil Parsons Racing

Josh Wise entered the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season with the pressure to perform after leaving Front Row Motorsports to pilot the No. 98 Phil Parsons Racing Ford. Joining this team wasn’t the best option for the 31-year-old, since they don’t have a lot of resources, but every driver and team must start somewhere, right?

Once the season got underway, Wise had some very good runs for the small team, earning four top-25 finishes after 10 races. Over the course of the next 18 events, past halfway in the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season, the team hit a inconsistent patch but finished eight of those events inside the top-30. Finishing out the year, at the Talladega Superspeedway and the Martinsville Speedway, Wise took the No. 98 Ford to a pair of top-30 finishes. The team competed in all but one NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race after failing to qualify at the Phoenix International Raceway in March.

Yes, the team didn’t get a single top-10 finish throughout the year, but I call the year a very successful one. Knowing how much they improved as a whole, I think the 2015 season will be an even more successful one for Phil Parsons Racing. I won’t be one bit surprised if the team finishes 2015 with much more top-30 finishes.

With the 2015 season fast approaching, Wise enters his second season with the Phil Parsons Racing team. One of the things on their list to focus on is sponsorship, which right now is very hard to find in racing. The biggest sponsorship they had during 2014 came from Reddit.com and Dogecoin. They also had numerous partners for most of the season. Another area, according to their results in 2014, is to improve at the intermediate tracks. Most of their solid runs came at either short tracks or the big tracks.
