Ambrose Heads to Indianapolis Chasing The Chase

With 16 drivers making the new Chase in 2014, Marcos Ambrose is trying to gain as many points possible to make a playoff spot. The STANLEY Ford team at Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM) are currently 20th in the standings and sit 35 points out of playoff contention. Although difficult, it's not impossible for Ambrose to gain the points needed before the first Chase race at Chicagoland Speedway in September. A win, however, will make things much easier for the team. Ambrose will be a favorite at Watkins Glen in a few weeks.

There are currently five drivers who will make The Chase based on points. Matt Kenseth leads that group and everyone is trying to get into the 16th spot that Kyle Larson now occupies with 524 points. Ambrose has accumulated 489 points heading into Indianapolis.

Ambrose will be making his seventh start at Indianapolis where he has a best finish of 16th just last year with RPM.

The No. 9 @StanleyRacing team and @MarcosAmbrose are fighting hard for a playoff spot, hoping to gain points this weekend.

@Marcos Ambrose #9 Fan Page still in contention for Chase spot and hopes to gain points this weekend.

"Our goal is still to win a race, the only way to basically guarantee you a spot in The Chase, and that goal has not changed. We came out of New Hampshire and slipped a bit, something we really can't do over the next few weeks. There are a lot of points to be gained at Indy, Pocono and of course Watkins Glen. There are still four or five races after that too. So, there is a lot of racing left and a lot of good things can happen for our race team.

"We are testing Watkins Glen, and we have high hopes there, but it's not putting all our eggs in one basket. We are still concentrating on this weekend and getting a really good finish, the same for the upcoming races. If we can put a string of two or three good runs together, like we have done this year, we have seen how far we have climbed in points. That's a big goal of ours and we're looking to work hard this weekend."
