NSCS: Sonoma Raceway Preview

This weekend the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will head to the Sonoma Raceway for the first of two races this season on a road course. Sonoma will mark race 16 of 36 for the series this season and will serve as the only stop for the series on the 1.99-mile road course.

The entry list features a total of 43 drivers so nobody will be going home once qualifying is completed tomorrow. Some of the drivers include: Boris Said, Alex Kennedy, JJ Yeley, Tommy Drissi and Michael McDowell. Qualifying will feature two rounds instead of three.

Jimmie Johnson heads into the Sonoma Raceway hoping to capture the win on Sunday. If he does get the win, he will tie Hendrick Motorsports record with six victories set in a row, and also make a milestone of 70 victories in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. This winning streak started at the Kansas Speedway where Jeff Gordon scored the win. Kasey Kahne remains the only driver who does not have a win this season despite some great runs.

Several drivers go into this weekend as the fan favorites to capture the win. Many of these include: Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Marcos Ambrose, Aj Allmendinger and even Jimmie Johnson. Stewart, Gordon and Johnson all three has atleast one victory here, as Ambrose and Allmendinger has both had some decent runs, but have come up all short.

Martin Truex Jr. hopes to get some strong runs going for the Furniture Row Racing team starting this weekend as he goes into Sonoma as the defending race winner. He goes into this weekend with only three finishes up inside the top-10. He sits 25th in the points standings without a win in 2014.

You can catch the Toyota/Save Mart 350 Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Et, live on TNT. The Performance Racing Network will carry the live radio broadcast of the event.
