Legendary No. 43 Will be Decked Out in Taxi Yellow with a Black and White Checker Bottom

New York taxis, world famous for their race car driving style, will put their reputation to the test against NASCAR’S best this Sunday at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway.

Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM) and Medallion Financial announced today that the legendary No. 43, made famous by NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty, will be sponsored by Medallion Financial, which is a co-owner of RPM through its wholly-owned subsidiary Medallion Capital, Inc. Medallion Financial has made billions of dollars in loans to taxi owners, and its wholly-owned subsidiary Medallion Bank has bought and made hundreds of millions of dollars in recreational vehicle and boat loans to many NASCAR fans around the country.

The No. 43 will be designed to replicate a New York taxi. The car will have the authentic New York City taxi yellow, a black and white checker bottom, and the iconic logo of hailing a taxi that is seen on every one of the 13,237 New York City yellow taxis. The Medallion Financial Ford will be piloted by Richard Petty Motorsports driver AJ Allmendinger.

“I have always wanted to see how a New York City cab driver would do against the best drivers in NASCAR, and this is the next best thing,” said Andrew Murstein, president of Medallion Financial. “We couldn’t be prouder of our relationship with Richard Petty Motorsports. They represent excellence and integrity in sports, which is everything that Medallion strives for in business.”

The No. 43 Medallion Financial Ford Fusion is the first of what Murstein hopes will be several more taxi-themed, Medallion-sponsored race cars this season.

“Andrew and his father Alvin, along with their partner Doug Bergeron have brought their astute business eye into NASCAR,” stated Petty. “AJ and Marcos [Ambrose] are each off to their best starts ever, and with the backing of Medallion, they have all of the resources they need to compete week in and week out. It’s just a matter of time until we are all back in the winner’s circle.”

Medallion Financial’s signature company car, a 1978 Checker Cab with over one million miles on it, will be on display Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the track behind grandstand #2.
