Ty Dillon Set to Make 100th Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Start in the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway

Weekend Notes

With 99 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) starts under his belt, Ty Dillon will make his 100th start in Sunday’s GEICO 500 as he wheels the No. 13 GEICO Camaro ZL1 around Talladega Superspeedway. This will be GEICO’s fifth season as the entitlement sponsor of Talladega’s spring race, previously sponsoring the track’s fall race and events at Chicagoland Speedway. This is without a doubt the biggest weekend of Germain Racing’s 2019 season.

In an impressive streak at a track where “the big one” often wreaks havoc and half of the field is taken out of the race, Dillon has completed every single lap of the four MENCS races at Talladega that he has entered. He has never finished outside of the top-15 and has led three laps of competition. He has competed in each race as the driver of the GEICO Chevrolet.

99 Races Down…

Germain Racing team owner Bob Germain gave Dillon his first opportunity to go full-time MENCS racing at the start of 2017, and he’s now in his third year of full-time competition. He previously made sporadic starts for Richard Childress Racing, Stewart Hass Racing, Leavine Family Racing and Tommy Baldwin Racing throughout the 2014, 2015 and 2016 seasons as he worked to gain the attention of teams and owners in the Cup Series. After years of hard work and dedication, Dillon will make his 100th MENCS start.

“When I found out about the opportunity to go full-time Cup Series racing was finally here after growing up around this sport and wanting to do this my whole life, I was so excited and anxious. It was really accomplishing a huge goal in my career and my life. Three years into working with the team at Germain Racing, I feel like I’m still growing and developing as a person and as a driver. Bob Germain and GEICO have dedicated years of support to this sport, and we’re seeing the benefits of that each and every week. I’m just thankful. I’m thankful to be in this sport and make 100 starts. Most people that dream of racing in this series won’t even get to make one, and here I am about to make my 100th. I’m appreciative to all of the people who have taken chances on me to lead their teams and represent their brands. We have great partners in GEICO, Twisted Tea and Chevrolet. I want to thank every person that’s been a part of my first 100 starts in the Cup Series. I appreciate of the opportunities that they have given me. Hopefully 100 is our first win.”

Dillon Weekend Chatter
After a strong superspeedway finish in Daytona, what are your thoughts as you prepare for the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway?
“Superspeedways have been good to our GEICO Racing team in our last four or five visits. We’re looking to keep that streak going and get another great finish. We always want to get the year kicked off right, and leaving Daytona earlier this season with a sixth-place finish gave us a lot of confidence as we kicked off for the season. And, it always makes you feel more comfortable heading to the next superspeedway race. That momentum has really carried us through the first segment of this year as we’ve been able to build onto what was already a positive start to 2019.”

How do you prepare for the unknowns that come with superspeedway racing?
“Surviving the superspeedways to get a good finish really gives you the opportunity to take control of your season. Variables like superspeedways can easily become a bad points day and put you in a hole. So, we really focus on a strategy that will get us to the end of the race to get a solid finish. We’ve been in contention to win a couple of these races by doing that.”
