MENCS: Joey Logano wins Penzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Joey Logano won Sunday’s Penzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Logano earned Team Penske their second consecutive win this season, leading 86 laps.

For Logano, this marks his first win at Las Vegas in twelve career tries and the 22nd of his NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series career.

Driver No. 22 held off teammate Brad Keselowski, who won last Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Keselowski would make a charge at Logano in the final turn, but would not be enough to pass teammate Joey Logano.

”What a great race, Brad and i were so evenly matched,” Logano told Fox Sports. “The way the draft is, you can’t just drive away. In the last 5-6 laps, Brad was catching me so quick and i got stuck behind a lapped car. To be so close and get it at the end there, it was fun.”

Rounding out the top five were Brad Keselowski in second, Kyle Busch in third, Kevin Harvick in fourth and Kurt Busch in fifth.

There were no cautions in Sunday’s Penzoil 400 for race incidents, just the two yellow flags to end each stage.

Rounding out the top ten were Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in sixth, Aric Almirola in seventh, Martin Truex Jr. in eighth, Chase Elliott in ninth and Denny Hamlin in tenth.

Kyle Busch, who was going for three wins straight this weekend came up just short of victory today. Busch bounced back from a speeding penalty on pit road, finishing third. “I think we would have won the race if it wasn’t for that,” Busch said.

The NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series continues its “West Coast Swing” next Sunday, March 10, with the running of the TicketGuardian 500 at ISM Raceway.
