MENCS: Kevin Harvick wins pole for Sunday’s Penzoil 400

Kevin Harvick will start Sunday’s Penzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway from the pole. Driver No. 4 clinched the top spot with a speed of 180. 517 mph.

For Harvick, this marks his 26th pole of his NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series career and first at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Rounding out the top five were Denny Hamlin in second, Kyle Busch in third, Austin Dillion in fourth and Daniel Hemric in fifth.

Friday’s qualifying session was defined by drafting as result of the new rules package for the 2019 season.

Rounding out the top ten were David Ragan in sixth, Kyle Larson in seventh, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in eighth, Jimmie Johnson in ninth and Joey Logano in tenth.

Drivers waited until the final minutes of qualifying in the final two sessions to leave pit road mainly because drivers didn’t want to be the first car leading the draft.

Brad Keselowski, who won last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway would qualify 19th. Aric Almirola, who started on the pole last weekend in Atlanta would qualify 25th. The Penzoil 400 can be seen at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Sunday on FOX.
