Three of the four Joe Gibbs Racing teams in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series were hit with L1 penalties on Tuesday by NASCAR. The penalties involved the No. 11, 18 and 20 cars.
Each team violated section 20.4.3.a (splitter did not meet rule specifications). Each car chief will be suspended for one race and each crew chief, Mike Wheeler, Adam Stevens and Chris Gayle, have been fined $25,000 dollars as a result.
The No. 19 of Daniel Suarez was the only Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota not found with a non-compliant splitter during pre-race inspection at Michigan International Speedway.
Each of the teams involved have three business days to file an appeal with NASCAR Appeals.
