DIRTcar Racing Officials announced today Drydene Performance Products has been named title sponsor of the Drydene Xtreme DIRTcar Series ahead of its winter season opener on Sunday, Nov. 24, at Cherokee Speedway for the Blue Gray 100.
An all-new series logo in the familiar red-and-white Drydene colors has been unveiled and Drydene will be posting a number of product awards at each of the Series’ events, including five $5,000-to-win, $500-to-start, 40-lap Features in addition to the $10,000-to-win season opener in Gaffney, SC.
“Drydene continues to be impressed with everything we do in dirt track racing and the Drydene Xtreme DIRTcar Series provides us with a platform to carry that momentum through the winter with top-notch Late Model events at some of the finest tracks in the South,” said Dave Klinger, President of Drydene Performance Products
The Drydene Xtreme DIRTcar Series features a massive $45,000 cash point fund with $20,000 to the champion, $10,000 to second place, $5,000 to third place and $1,000 to any driver with perfect attendance. In addition to the point fund, any driver qualifying for all six races is guaranteed a minimum of $4,000, by virtue of the $1,000 perfect attendance bonus, plus six races at $500 to start.
Championship points will be compiled in unique fashion, giving each driver a mulligan, meaning if six races are completed, only the five best finishes will count. If five races are completed, only the four best finishes will count, and so on. In sum, a driver is not required to run every race to have a shot at first, second or third-place payoffs. Additionally, in order to soften the blow of a DNF under traditional point systems, points will be awarded on the basis of 15 points for a win, followed by 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, and five points for 10th through 22nd, with two points awarded to all non-qualifiers.
Standard race formats will include group Qualifying, three Heat races with a top-two redraw and one Last Chance Showdown leading into the 40-lap Feature. There will be one track provisional and one Series provisional at each event. Tire rules will include Hoosier 1350/1600 with a D70 emergency RR option, along with American Racer 48/56 with a 70 emergency RR option. Hoosier 1300 and American Racer 44 tires will be allowed ONLY for the Blue Gray 100 Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series co-sanctioned event.

Annual Night of Smiles event culminates another great year of giving for Bristol Motor Speedway's Speedway Children15 Nov 2019
On Thursday night, Bristol Motor Speedway’s Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities (SCC) celebrated another successful year of raising funds to support local agencies that support children in need. During its annual Night of Smiles event that was broadcast live on BTES’ Power 7 local channel for the first time, SCC-Bristol announced its highest donation total since 2016.
Executive Director Claudia Byrd announced that BMS’ SCC chapter raised a significant total of $920,851 during the 2019 calendar year that will be distributed to 103 rural-area child-focused agencies throughout Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. Since its inception in 1997, SCC-Bristol has raised nearly $16 million with proceeds going back to the local community.
“There’s no greater blessing than to be here at the Night of Smiles and help give away the money raised to area agencies that are going to help children in need in our community,” Byrd said. “Although demand for assistance will always exceed our ability to assist, we’re so thankful to everyone who has donated and volunteered throughout the years to help us raise nearly $16 million. We would not be able to do this without your love and support.”
The 2019 Jeff Byrd Grant also was awarded to Isaiah 117 House. Presented in honor of the late general manager of Bristol Motor Speedway, the $50,000 award will go towards the organization’s efforts to build a home that will provide a safe and stable nurturing environment for children during traumatic times in their lives. The effort to build the house came after the Department of Child Services in Sullivan County, Tenn. expressed the immediate need of a home of this nature in the area. The funds will go toward capital to build the house.
Night of Smiles is the culmination of a year of SCC fundraising events, including numerous activities during NASCAR and NHRA race weekends and The Pinnacle Speedway in Lights, which opens for its 23rd season on Friday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m.

Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) will promote Cole Custer from its NASCAR Xfinity Series team to the NASCAR Cup Series in 2020, whereupon the nine-time Xfinity Series race winner will drive the team’s No. 41 Haas Automation Ford Mustang.
Custer has a chance to add the 2019 Xfinity Series championship to his resume, as the 21-year-old driver from Ladera Ranch, California, is set to compete for the series title on Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway as part of the Championship 4 with fellow Xfinity Series drivers Tyler Reddick, Christopher Bell and Justin Allgaier.
“I was asked last year about this time what Cole needed to do to earn his place in the NASCAR Cup Series, and I said he needed to win,” said Gene Haas, co-owner of SHR with three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Tony Stewart. “Well, Cole has done that – a lot. He showed that he’s ready to compete at the next level and we’re giving him that opportunity.”
Custer finished second in last year’s Xfinity Series championship to Reddick, and 2019 has proven to be a breakout campaign for Custer. He came into the season with two wins – one in 2017 and another in 2018. This year alone, he has claimed seven victories, six poles, 16 top-fives, 23 top-10s and led 907 laps. Custer’s seven wins are the second-most this year, behind only Bell with eight wins. Custer’s six poles ties him with Bell for the most poles this season.
Custer, Bell and Reddick will resume their rivalry in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2020, with each earning a promotion from their respective teams to NASCAR’s premier racing series.
“Cole has certainly earned his spot in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2020,” Stewart added. “He’s consistently running up front, leading laps and winning races. The level of competition increases dramatically in the NASCAR Cup Series, but it’s where Cole belongs after having proven himself in the Xfinity Series.”
Custer has steadily advanced through NASCAR’s stepping-stone divisions, finding success in the NASCAR K&N Series, followed by the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series and the Xfinity Series. Being promoted to the NASCAR Cup Series is a natural evolution of his racing career, especially after such a strong 2019 season.
“This is the moment I’ve worked for ever since I first started racing,” said Custer, who began racing quarter midgets at age five. “I’ve learned a lot in these last three years in the Xfinity Series, and to be able to stay within Stewart-Haas Racing will make a steep learning curve a little less steep. I know the people, the culture and what’s expected of me. I’m ready for this challenge.”

Jonathan Huberdeau to Serve as Honorary Starter for Ford EcoBoost 400 Championship Race at Homestead-Miami Speedway14 Nov 2019
With Ford Championship Weekend commencing tomorrow, the list of pre-race dignitaries continues to grow. Florida Panthers center Jonathan Huberdeau will serve as the Honorary Starter for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Ford EcoBoost 400 championship race on Sunday, November 17. As Honorary Starter, Huberdeau will wave the green flag at the start of the 267-lap race.
The Saint-Jerome, Quebec, native was selected by the Florida Panthers with the third overall pick of the 2011 NHL Draft. Huberdeau made his NHL debut for the Panthers during the 2012-13 season and became the first Panther in franchise history to win the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s rookie of the year. Currently in his eighth season with Florida, Huberdeau has nine goals and 15 assists this year, and ranks in the top-10 among forwards in both assists and points. Earlier this week, Huberdeau recorded his 249th career assist, tying Stephen Weiss for the franchise record.
“Having an elite athlete like Jonathan Huberdeau participate in NASCAR’s championship race is what Ford Championship Weekend is all about,” said Homestead-Miami Speedway President Al Garcia. “Having played in South Florida his whole career, Huberdeau has become a part of our community and we are honored to have him involved in one of the region’s biggest events.”
