Justin Lofton and Madvapes 4th in Daytona

The first race of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season is in the books. Justin Lofton (#6) and his MadVapes ESR Chevrolet Team came into the event with high hopes after working hard all winter preparing for Daytona.

Right off the truck the MadVapes Chevy was fast where they practiced on top the speed charts in both practice sessions. Qualifying proved that the team had just what they hoped for, sitting on top of the qualifying pole until another Chevrolet of Brennan Newberry just edged Lofton by a fraction for the pole, putting Lofton and MadVapes ESR Chevy Team on the from row for the start of the Daytona NextEra Energy 250.

At the start of the race, Lofton took off with drafting partner Ron Hornaday, giving Lofton the lead for the first nine laps of the race before the pack started to play the drafting “chess game”. Thorughout the night Lofton kept the MadVapes Chevy up front running in the top ten, only to fall out of the top ten for a few laps during a pit stop shuffling of the field. Not unlike truck racing at Daytona, Lofton had a few “mements” occurred when the truck got sideways from being pushed in the draft, but the savvy veteran was able to hang on and keep the MadVapes Chevy up front.

During the final laps of the race Lofton was sitting right where he wanted to be, on the tail end of the lead pack, in fourth position with a chance to work the draft and bring home a victory. However the elusive Daytona victory wasn’t meant to be as a last lap accident brought out the caution, leaving Lofton and the MadVapes coasting across the finished line in a fine 4th place!

“I’m very proud of the MadVapes team, they brought us a great Truck that was fast right off the trailer”. We’ll look forward to the next race and challenging for another win for ESR and MadVapes”, stated the 27 year old from Southern California.
