Rare Failure Relegates Jason White to 20th Place Finish in Kentucky

Just when you think you have seen everything in the sport of NASCAR, something happens to show you that’s just not the case. Jason White and his No. 23 GunBroker.com Ford found that out firsthand on Friday night after experiencing a very rare failure.  The failure resulted in contact with the Turn 2 wall ending the day for White and relegating him to a 20th place finish in the Kentucky 201 at Kentucky Speedway.

White started the 134-lap event from the 19th position as a result of his qualifying effort earlier in the day with rain seemingly bearing down on the 1.5-mile track.  With the weather ultimately clearing, the early portion of the event was used by the GunBroker.com team to make some key adjustments on pit stops and position themselves at the front of the field with some strategy.   With the strategy in place, Jason was patiently working his way to the finish with a top-10 in sight when disaster struck on lap 105.  A rare hub assembly failure on the right front of the No. 23 GunBroker.com Ford shot White into the wall coming off Turn 2.  The result was significant damage and an unfortunate 20th-place finish.

“Well that is about as disappointing as it gets,” stated White.  “We have fought together as a team all year and proved that we are a top-10 team but to be plagued by such a freak failure like that is discouraging.  We are not really sure how or why the failure happened but we will go back to the shop and figure it out for sure.”

The disappointing 20th-place finish dropped White to 12th position in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers’ standings – a mere 5 points out of the tenth position.

“We made some good adjustments to our GunBroker.com Ford on our pits stops and our truck was the best it had been all weekend,” added Jason.   “We used a little fuel strategy and thought we were in good shape for a solid top-10 run.  Then all of a sudden it felt like my front brakes just locked up and the truck shot into the wall coming off Turn 2.  We will figure out what happened and do our best to make sure that doesn’t happen again.”

Jason and his GunBroker.com team return to action on Saturday September 29th as the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series heads west to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the running of the Smith’s 350.
