The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series kick’s off the NASCAR All-Star weekend at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender Ross Chastain is looking for a change of fate following mechanical issues that forced him out of the previous race at Kansas after just seventeen laps. The Florida teen is ready to turn the tables on lady luck this Friday in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200.
This week Chastain will once again carry the colors of the Florida Watermelon Association on the hood of his Toyota Tundra Friday evening at Charlotte. “Our Tundra will look the same this week as it did at Kansas; I like the white truck. We’ll have some of the Watermelon Queen’s this Saturday and next Saturday to visit some merchants and we’ll have the show truck to help us do some promotion.”
“We’ll be ready for Friday night; Bryan Berry and the guys in the SS Green Light shop did a great job over the couple week break, our Toyota is done and fired up ready to go. The guys are excited to race close to home. We just need some better luck this week.”
It’s the fifth race of the 2012 NCWTS season and once again the talented farmer from South Florida will face a new racetrack, his fifth of the year. “I’ve never run at Charlotte. I’ve been over there, but never been out on the track or anything I know it’s a fast track. We picked-up Kansas pretty quick; we would have been really good there,” he continued. “That’s the worst part about it; we had a broken piston and rod, we just don’t know which part broke first, part failures are nobodies fault. I think we’ll be able to pick-up Charlotte just as easily and get up to speed.”
“I’m ready to get back to the track, turn this thing around and show everybody how good we can run. Bad luck, awful luck, I don‘t know any better words than those to describe the last couple races. We got our bad luck out of the way and now it’s our turn to run good.”
The North Carolina Education Lottery 200 is the 275th consecutive NCWTS start for the SS Green Light Racing team and the tenth career start for Chastain in the Truck Series. He has an average starting spot of 24.4 and an average finish of 20.9 including two top-ten finishes in his eight starts. Ross best finish on a mile and a half speedway is 16th last fall at the Texas Motor Speedway.
There are 41 trucks on the entry list for the North Carolina Education Lottery 200. Johnny Chapman will pilot the No. 07 Wear Your Gear/Bobber.com Toyota Tundra for SS Green Light Racing.
