GMS Racing NCWTS Talladega Recap

Timothy Peters, No. 25 Kingman Chevrolet

“This was a really special win, just to go from not knowing what your plans are in May 2017 to getting the call from Mike (Beam) and Maury (Gallagher) to come run these three races at tracks that I’ve run well at. To come to Talladega knowing that their program is strong in general and they’ve won just about every superspeedway race that I can remember, and knowing the hard work that Jerry (Baxter) and everyone at GMS Racing and GMS Fabrication put into these vehicles, I knew if I kept my head on straight we’d have a shot at a win. It just feels so special. I can’t thank everyone enough for the opportunity.”

Justin Haley, No. 24 Fraternal Order of Eagles Chevrolet

START: 16th

FINISH: 4th

POINTS: 5th

Notes:

– Saturday’s fourth-place finish at Talladega Superspeedway is a NCWTS track-best finish for Haley.

– Continuing his streak, Haley now has 10 consecutive top-10 finishes, starting back with his first win of the season at Gateway Motorsports Park. Haley now has eight top-five finishes, and 15 top-10 finishes in the 2018 NCWTS season.

– Making it through the first round of The Playoffs, Haley moved into second in the 2018 NCWTS driver point standings. Resetting the points for the top six competitors for the Round of 6, Haley is now seeded fifth, four points below the cut mark.

“I thought we had that one but that’s superspeedway racing for you. it was a solid day and overall solid round of eight for this Fraternal Order of Eagles team. We had the best average finish out of any of the Playoff drivers and moved to second in points. I couldn’t be more proud of my 24 guys. To Martinsville we go.”

Johnny Sauter, No. 21 ISM Connect Chevrolet

START: 5th

(to the rear)

FINISH: 22nd

POINTS: 1st

Notes:

– Sauter’s 22nd-place result at Talladega was his first finish outside the top-20 since last season (Eldora, 2017).

– Following the completion of the Round of 8 in the NCWTS Playoffs, Sauter continues to lead the point standings by 15 points.

Quote:

“We didn’t get the result we wanted, but we did what we came here to do and that was secure our spot in the next round of The Playoffs. Our ISM Connect Chevy was really fast and once we got up front with the 25 I felt like we had something for the rest of the field. But things don’t always work out the way you’d like them to and we just weren’t able to keep going after all the damage we had. Thankfully we can move on from here and head to tracks that I feel like we’ve been strongest at the last three years. I’m excited for the next round and what this 21 team can do.”

Spencer Gallagher, No. 2 Allegiant Chevrolet

START: 2nd

FINISH: 25th

OWNER PTS: 14th

Notes:

– Qualifying second for Saturday’s race at Talladega Superspeedway was a track-best effort for Gallagher.

Quote:

“It’s a shame for this GMS group. I think we had, hands down, the fastest truck out in the field today. I was able to go wherever I wanted to and whenever I wanted. I went from the back to contending for the lead pretty much on command. Doug (Randolph) and the No. 2 boys brought me a fast Allegiant Chevy and I just hate it for them that we couldn’t get the win. I feel like this was going to be our day.

“Even though today didn’t end how our team wanted, I couldn’t be happier for Timothy (Peters) and the No. 25 team. He’s a force to be reckoned with at Talladega, that’s for sure. I’m glad that GMS Racing is the one bringing home the win this weekend.”
