Young’s Motorsports Scores Top-10 Finish at Chicagoland

AUSTIN HILL NOTCHES THIRD TOP-10 FINISH OF THE SEASON
 

Austin Hill made his first trip to Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill., this weekend. On Thursday night, after a couple of NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) practice sessions, the Winston, Ga., native competed in the ARCA race with MDM Motorsports where he finished 10th and followed that up Friday night with a top-10 finish in the NCWTS Overton’s 225.

Hill started the 150-lap Overton’s 225 from 14th and was running in 15th fighting loose conditions when the first caution came out on lap 22. Two laps later, he brought his No. 02 Young’s Building Systems Chevrolet down pit road for some adjustments to help with the loose handling Truck and restarted in 16th. During the remaining laps, Hill reclaimed two positions and finished the opening stage in 14th.

On lap 38, Hill brought his No. 02 Young’s Building Systems Truck down pit road for four fresh tires, fuel, another adjustment and restarted Stage 2 in 16th. The caution came out again on lap 51, Hill then pit on lap 55 for a left rear shock adjustment and restarted 16th with just 13 laps remaining in the second Stage. He climbed up four positions to round out Stage 2 in 12th.

The 24-year-old came down on pit road for four more tires, fuel, an adjustment and a tear off. He spent a little extra time on pit road as his stall was blocked on exit, forcing him to back out of his pit stall and restart in 13th for the final stage. When the final caution of the night came out on lap 120, Hill was in 10th and he pit on lap 123 for four more tires and fuel, before restarting in eighth. In the closing laps, Hill slipped back to 10th but regained a position to finish ninth and earn his third top-10 of the 2018 season.

 

MAX TULLMAN FINISHES 23RD IN TRUCK SERIES DEBUT AT CHICAGOLAND SPEEDWAY
 

Max Tullman made his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) debut Friday night at Chicagoland Speedway in the Young’s Motorsports No. 20 Yurpal.com Chevrolet Silverado. After running over 20 laps in each of the two NCWTS practice sessions, Tullman competed in the ARCA race for Mason Mitchell Motorsports and finished 17th. He followed it up with a 23rd-place finish in the Overton’s 225 on Friday.

Tullman took the green flag for the 150-lap race from the 21st-starting position. He was 22nd when the first caution of the race came out and he pit for an adjustment to help with the loose handling of his No. 20 Yurpal.com Chevy. He restarted in 19th and maintained the position to close out the opening stage just inside the top-20.

The 20-year-old came down pit road on lap 38 for four fresh tires, fuel and another adjustment to help with the loose conditions of the No. 20 Yurpal.com Chevy and restarted 17th to kick off Stage 2. Tullman was up to 21st when the caution was displayed on lap 51 and he opted to stay on track to restart in 15th and ended Stage 2 in 19th.

Tullman pit on lap 73 for four tires, fuel and some more adjustments to the No. 20 Yurpal.com Chevrolet and restarted the final stage in 15th. On lap 120 when the final caution of the race was displayed, the Chester Springs, Penn., native was running in the 20th position, two laps down. When he pit on lap 124 for four tires, fuel and adjustments, he got hit with a penalty for service to the Truck outside of the pit stall. He served the penalty when the rest of the field went back to green and unfortunately lost another lap to the leaders. The remaining 24 laps ran without caution and Tullman wasn’t able to regain positions, resulting in a 23rd-place finish.
