Stewart Friesen Leads 48 laps, Wins Stage 2

After a stage 2 win for Stewart Friesen, coming off of his pole win and second place finish the week before in Texas, Iowa was looking good for Friesen’s first win in the NCWTS.  A crash on lap 135 however would dash all hopes for Friesen and the HFR crew.

Suffering a left front flat, Matt Crafton slid up the track and got into John Hunter Nemecheck, causing a wreck that Friesen and Ben Rhodes were caught up in.  Despite suffering damage to the no. 52 Chevy Silverado, Friesen was able to pull out a top 10 finish, battling his way back to 9th place.

“This was not the end result we wanted obviously, but salvaged some points anyway. So cool to have the speed that we do with our Halmar Chevy right now so I’m excited to get to Gateway next week.” said a disappointed but hopeful Friesen.  Despite the less than desirable finish, Friesen picked up enough points to move up to 4th in overall points.  He is now the highest ranked driver in points without a win.

Before shipping off to Gateway Motorsports Park, Friesen will get another Short Track Super Series race in on Wednesday the 20th at Dundee NY’s Outlaw Speedway.  With one win in the series at Middletown NY’s Orange County Fair Speedway, Friesen looks to extend his points lead by parking it at Outlaw.

Friesen maintains a busy schedule racing between dirt and asphalt and while seat time in any car on any surface is good, Friesen’s relative inexperience with the asphalt tracks of the NCWTS is something the driver is aware of.  When asked how he prepares for racing on tracks he has little experience with, Friesen says he has been using the racing simulator iRacing to better familiarize himself with new tracks.
