Brett Moffitt, driver of the No. 16 Northland Foundations Inc. Toyota Tundra, held his third-place position in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) standings after a challenging 18th-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) on Friday night.
After Moffitt posted the sixth-fastest lap in Thursday’s lone practice session, he and the No. 16 team were poised for another strong run on a 1.5-mile speedway. Moffitt’s race trim speed along with a strong seventh-place qualifying effort was an indictor of another solid outing to come. Once the green flag waved, Moffitt combatted an extremely loose condition on corner entry combined with a tight balance on corner exit but maintained position inside the top 10.
An early caution on lap eight allowed Moffitt to come to pit road for required wedge and track bar adjustments to remedy the balance. Moffitt restarted 22nd on lap 12 and immediately began his charge towards the front, and quickly advanced into the top 12 by lap 25. While racing for 11th position, Moffitt spun while inside the No. 22 truck and made significant contact with the Turn 2 wall. Moffitt’s No. 16 suffered damage to the left front and left rear fenders which severely hampered the performance of his Toyota Tundra.
Despite dealing with multiple tire rubs and flat tires throughout the remainder of the event, Moffitt and the No. 16 team soldiered on from 25th to secure an 18th-place finish at the checkered flag. After Friday’s PPG 400, Moffitt still sits third position in the overall standings and Playoff Grid at the halfway point to the NCWTS playoffs.

“This certainly wasn’t the night we wanted or expected. We had a fast Tundra again and found ourselves backwards in a bad spot. This truck has been so fast all season, so it’s a shame we tore the left side off it. You’ll have some bad nights, but we’ll have other good nights too. Next week is a brand new opportunity, so we need to refocus and put this behind us. We’ll go home to Iowa (Speedway) next week and try to race for another win there.”
