Moffitt Turns in Solid Points Night After Voltage Issues

Brett Moffitt, driver of the No. 16 Concrete Supply / Central Plains Cement Company Toyota Tundra, turned in a solid points night despite falling victim to battery and voltage issues at Kansas Speedway on Friday night. Moffitt was in second position, racing for the lead, when voltage issues caused a loss of power on lap 95. However, his 38 points accumulated from stage points and a 16th-place finish netted him the fourth-highest point total of any driver in the 37 Kinds Days 250 field.

Moffitt and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) competitors were limited to one practice session on Friday morning due to weather, during which he turned in the third-fastest lap on the speed chart. For the fifth consecutive week, Moffitt advanced to the final round of qualifying and took the green flag in 10th position. The driver of the No. 16 wasted no time flexing his muscle and entered the top five by lap two. By lap 14, Moffitt moved into the third position and steadily ran there until the end of Stage 1 on lap 40 and collected eight points.

During the opening stage, Moffitt endured a tight balance and came to pit road under yellow on lap 45 for four tires, fuel, and a wedge adjustment to combat the issue. The HRE team held serve on pit road and allowed Moffitt to restart third on lap 50. During the 31-lap green flag stint in Stage 2, Moffitt solidified himself as one of the strongest threats in the field. He advanced to second on lap 64 and pressured the leader for the stage win. At the conclusion of Stage 2, Moffitt collected an additional nine points in second position.

Under the stage caution, Moffitt pitted again for four tires, fuel, and a track bar adjustment. On lap 88, Moffitt restarted fifth and made a stunning three-wide move to take second position. As he began to wage a war for the top spot, he radioed his team that he began losing voltage and was forced to pit road. The Concrete Supply / Central Plains Cement Company team successfully changed the battery and returned Moffitt to the track in 21st, three laps down on lap 99. Over the final 68 laps, Moffitt was able to advance five positions to finish 16th. The result netted him 38 points, the fourth most of any driver in the field and holds the fourth position in the driver championship standings.

Brett Moffitt Quote:

“This truck was fast. (Crew chief) Scott (Zipadelli) and these guys gave me a great Tundra tonight. I really wanted to put Concrete Supply and Central Plains Cement Company in victory lane and we absolutely had the truck to do it. We were right there in position on that restart after Stage 2 and had been improving the balance all race. We just lost voltage and then lost power pretty quick after that restart. We had to change the battery under green and didn’t have enough time to recover after that. Running towards the front in each stage got us a lot of points and made for a decent points night. These guys work really hard and bring fast trucks every single week. Our day is going to come.”
