The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series heads to Chicagoland Speedway this Friday, September 15 for TheHouse.com 225 (8:30 p.m., FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). The 1.5 mile tri-oval in Joliet, IL will be hosting it’s 9th NCWTS contest. It will be the final race for the series before the 2017 playoffs begin.
In the 8 previous races at Chicagoland, there have been 6 different pole winners and 4 different race winners. The qualifying record is 176.148 mph, set by Spencer Gallagher in September last year. It was Spencer’s first pole in the series. Justin Lofton (7/21/2012) is the only other first tme NCWTS pole winner at Chicagoland. The race record was set by Kyle Busch at 142.882 mph (9/13/2014). John Hunter Nemechek is the only first time NCWTS winner in Chicagoland history (9/19/2015). Defending race winner Kyle Busch is not in the field this year.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series playoff roster is nearly complete. Only one spot remains unclaimed as the series reaches it’s regular season finale. Christopher Bell, John Hunter Nemechek, Johnny Sauter, Matt Crafton, Austin Cindric and Kaz Grala have all secured their spots with series wins. Chase Briscoe has sealed his spot by virtue of his point total vs. that of all other competitors. This leaves Ben Rhodes as the current holder of the eighth and final playoff spot with a precarious 7 point lead over Ryan Truex. Grant Enfinger (-31) and Noah Gragson (-47) are both still mathematically alive in the points race as well, but either would need a lot of help to get into the playoffs via that avenue. Of course, any non-winner in the top 20 to take the checkers at the end of TheHome.com 225 Friday night would jump past all other contenders for the final playoff spot and earn their chance at a series championship. Kyle Busch Motorsports’ No. 4 Toyota Tundra leads the owners standings with a 30 point advantage over the GMS Racing No. 21 Chevrolet Silverado. The No. 88 ThorSport Toyota Tundra (-60) and the Brad Keselowski Racing No. 29 Ford F-150 (-61) are also within sight of the championship lead after 15 races. Toyota Leads Chevrolet 559-536 in he manufacturer standings. Ford trails with 472.
