Daniel Hemric Texas II 2016 Recap

Daniel Hemric (@DanielHemric) earned his 10th top-10 finish of 2016 and his seventh third-place finish of the season in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’ second stop at Texas Motor Speedway. Hemric was in the hunt for the win for the duration of the event, leading for 38 laps and fighting until the end for the victory, ultimately crossing the finish line third.

Hemric started on the front row for the Striping Technology 350 after a solid qualifying effort, just barely missing the pole position. From the wave of the green flag, Hemric and the race leader pulled away from the pack, separating themselves by as many as 20 truck lengths from the competitors behind them. Hemric relayed to crew chief Chad Kendrick that he initially fired off too free, but the No. 19 Blue Gate Bank Ford F-150 tightened up over the course of the run. When the Caution Clock expired on lap 40, Hemric was still in the second position, reporting that his truck had become too tight once the tires had worn off late in the run. Kendrick called for four tires, fuel and both air-pressure and track-bar adjustments, and a flawless stop by the crew earned the Brad Keselowski Racing team the lead for the lap 44 restart.

Hemric proceeded to lead nearly every lap until just before the Caution Clock once again triggered a yellow on lap 83. Dropping to the second position just before the caution, Hemric reported that he was losing overall grip over the course of the run. The BKR pit crew once again serviced their machine with four tires, fuel and both track-bar and air-pressure adjustments, and again their speedy work earned their driver the point position.

Taking the green flag from the lead, Hemric quickly relinquished the top spot following a wild three-wide restart. Dropping back into second, the top four trucks pulled away from the pack and swapped positions for the remainder of the 38-lap run, and Hemric was scored in the third position when the Caution Clock expired for the third and final time. The Blue Gate Bank crew had one final shot to adjust on their Ford F-150, and the team made one more stop for four tires, fuel and adjustments. Hemric emerged in the third position and took the green flag for the final time on lap 130. With 17 laps of green-flag racing remaining, Hemric fought his way back up to second, but was passed in the final laps, resulting in a third-place finish. The top-10 finish was Hemric’s third in just four starts at the Fort Worth facility.
