Timothy Peters Fights to Fifth at Martinsville

After a tough weekend at Martinsville Speedway, Timothy Peters and the No. 17 Red Horse Racing team earned a fifth-place finish in the Texas Roadhouse 200. The weekend began with two practice sessions on Friday afternoon, where the Danville, Virginia native struggled with the handling of his Toyota Tundra, posting the 20th and 15th fastest times. In three rounds of knock-out, group qualifying on Saturday morning, Peters drove through some oil on the track and had to abort his run. He did transfer to the second round and earned the 19th starting position. When the green flag fell, Peters slowly began to make his way toward the front, still fighting the balance of the red and white machine. On lap 53, the caution flag flew and crew chief Shane Huffman called Peters to pit road for four Goodyear tires, Sunoco fuel and adjustments. After restarting in 15th, he was still struggling with the balance, but following another four-tire pit stop under caution on lap 116, Peters lined up in 11th and soon broke in to the top-10. Visiting pit road for four tires, fuel and adjustments for a final time on lap 149, Peters restarted in 12th, as several teams ahead took only two tires. During several cautions as laps wound down, Peters used his knowledge of his home track and prowess at restarts to continue to gain positions and cross the finish line in fifth.

Timothy Peters Quote:
“We had a good truck, good pit crew, good spotter and just great effort by everyone on this Red Horse Tundra. We didn’t have the truck that we wanted by any means, but we kept adjusting on my Tundra all race long. The pit crew got me track position and it was left up to me to cap off the rest. If we couldn’t get the win, the top-five was definitely what we needed. Just glad to come out of here from 19th to fifth. We’ll build on this and go to Texas.”
