GMS Racing announced the addition of 23-year-old late model veteran Shane Lee to the team’s driver lineup for the November 4 event at Texas Motor Speedway. The Newton, N.C., native will pilot the No. 24 GMS Racing Chevrolet entry for the Longhorn 350 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race.
“I’ve been working on getting back in a truck for a while now and I’m thankful for the opportunity to do that with GMS Racing,” said Lee. “Mike Beam and his team have really shown up this year and to think that I get a shot at competing in their equipment is something I would have never guessed would happen. I’ve learned a lot since the start of 2016 – a little in the Truck Series and more in ARCA. There’s a difference in the way you drive between the two series but time on track is what leads to the biggest improvement and I think that will show once we get to Texas.”
Lee cut his teeth at short tracks around the southeast, earning two limited late model championships and 2013 Whelen All-American Series Rookie of the Year honors. He made his NCWTS debut in February and completed a partial ARCA Racing Series schedule this season.
Crew chief Jeff Stankiewicz will lead Lee in his first start at the Fort Worth mile-and-a-half track. Stankiewicz earned his first NCWTS win at Eldora Speedway with Kyle Larson in July.
“Jeff (Stankiewicz) is a proven winner and after seeing what he’s done with Grant (Enfinger), Kaz (Grala) and Kyle (Larson) I have no doubt that we will unload strong and ready to compete.”
